Shawna Edwards, a cousin of mine, has created a beautiful song illuminating her love for the Savior. I love this song and hope at least one of my girls will memorize it and perform it.

If you would like information about the history of this song, to receive a free download of it, or to print off the sheet music, visit Shawna at her site (pretty funny that we have the same website theme…of course mine has been tweaked a lot by the amazing Jessica at Eleven Sixty).

Happy Palm Sunday today, Passover on Friday, and Easter on Sunday. What a week!

annesleyisms…haircut girl

Apr 1, 2012 in children, family | 1 comment

Hi Mom.

I am the haircut girl and I am giving your husband a haircut. My name is Flower. I am the haircut girl. So, if you want a haircut, come to my store. Do you know where my store is? It is down the street, right next to your home. Remember, call me Flower!

This four-year-old mound of sweetness is so dear to my heart. I am so grateful God sent her to me. Just yesterday she was snuggling with me and said,

Jesus sent me to your flamly (family) because you prayed for a girl just like me. So He sent me. That is good. I loooovvvveeee being part of your flamly. You are my best mom ever.

And during General Conference while tracing the names of the leaders of our church.

I am writing letters! I am good at writing letters! Look, look, look at me! I think I can write this letter. I am doing it! I can write letters. I am amazing.

Yes, you are amazing. Your joy in the world. Your miraculous birth. Your brightness of spirit. Your unquenchable passion. Your snuggliness. Your everything. You are amazing to me. Thank you for coming to our family, dear one. We love you.

new read-a-loud

Mar 31, 2012 in books, history & geography, homeschooling | 7 comments

A couple of weeks ago someone on an email list recommended The Wonder Book For Girls and Boys by Nathaniel Hawthorne as a great read-a-loud for a wide range of children and that boys will especially love it. Since I have a wide range of children and a boy I was looking for a new read-a-loud for since his Spies book was putting me to sleep, I thought, hmmm, I will check it out. I quickly found it for free as a Kindle download and sent it my way in seconds. Then I started reading it to Fisher. Then, I said, “Fisher, go grab Keziah, I think she will love this.” So he did. And we read. And we loved it.

Now Fisher, Keziah, and Annes hang out on my bed drawing and working on handwriting while I read to them the adventures of Perseus, Midas, and Pandora’s Box. It is exciting enough to distract me from the pain in my hip and it is written in a way that appeals to each of them. We have never spent much time on Greek Myths, although Blythe had a phase where she was slightly obsessed with them and I own and LOVE the D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths.

So, if you are in a reading rut, check out Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Wonder book and see if you fall in love as we did.

p.s. To all of you who are wondering, yes, I hobbled downstairs and typed this on my big computer. Perhaps a mistake, but I had a ton of emails to get out for gymnastics and the 3rd Annual Homeschool Read-A-Thon and it seemed a much better use of my fingers and brain to do it here. I’m hoping I won’t pay for it in the hip department.

she sums it up

Annesley was snuggling in bed with me just now…she is full of hugs and kisses lately because she is full o’ worry for her mama.

She gave me a koala hug, a big kiss, and then she said what all of us are feeling.

“Why can’t you eeeeevvvvveeeeerrrrr be better? I am so sad that this happened.”

Me too, baby. Me too.

horizontal road trip

I have THE BEST friends in the world. I am so, so blessed to have a huge circle of women friends. Two of them, Kat and Jessica, took me on a road trip to find answers for this hip issue. I am still recovering from the whirlwind of events, emotions, and deeply moving experiences and am not ready to talk about it yet, but Jess posted a hilarious write-up and I love her words so much I could kiss her.

Someday, I may be up to sharing the story, but until then, you can read Jessica’s version and laugh yourself silly.

p.s. Thank you K & J…you are more dear to my heart than I can ever express…but you know that already, right?
