Swim Camp

***As of 2:25 on February 5, there are 85 students signed up for lessons. You may continue to register, but it is possible that students after this point won’t get into lessons. I am usually able to have 100 students in lessons, but so far do not have enough teachers to do that yet this year. People from this point on will be put on a waiting list for lessons and will most likely get in, but I can’t guarantee it.***

Registration opens on February 5, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. Please read this information and submit your form after that time. Lesson spots often fill very quickly. There is plenty of room for camping for those not interested in lessons.

We will be holding the 15th Annual Homeschool Swim Camp June 4 – June 8 at Downata Hot Springs which is located 93 miles south of Idaho Falls. Normal arrival will be Monday morning and departure will be Friday by 2:00 p.m. Some families choose to come on Sunday and others choose to stay longer.

You can read about Downata on their website. There is a swimming pool, water slides, cafe, swings, horseshoes, basketball, volleyball, and more. Best of all, the lovely, clean locker rooms have individual dressing rooms, multiple toilets, and multiple warm showers. It is a beautiful facility and the last four years there have proved to be lots of fun!

We will have space for 80 -100 students in swimming lessons (dependent on how many teachers are hired), so register quickly if you want lessons. Lessons will be filled on a first registered basis. Those registrations that exceed our teacher/student ratio will be put on a waiting list. Swimming lessons will be $57/student and will include six one-hour lessons and a daily swim/slide pass for Monday – Thursday. Lessons are available for students age 5 – 100. Lessons will be one hour long and students will have either one or two lessons per day, depending on the day of the week. Monday and Wednesday will be one lesson and Tuesday and Thursday will be two lessons. We have the pool from 10:00 – 12:00 on Monday and Wednesday and from 8:00 – 12:00 on Tuesday and Thursday. Then the pool will be open to the public from 12:00 – 9:00.

People who are not in swimming lessons can swim/slide for $7.50/day and 2-year olds and younger are $2.00.

Camping prices can be found on Downata’s website under Rates and a map of the campground is located here. I also have all the rates and options on the Registration Form if you would rather look there. We are planning on camping in the teepees, Cowboy Hangout, RV spots 1-39 with tents being in spots T1 – T16, Group Area 1, and Group Tent Area 4 (which will hold 5 tents and has power!). All RV sites will accommodate up to 32 feet RV’s. Sites 20, 30, 32-39 will accommodate up to 40 feet.

This is a change from the past few years as we will not be renting Group Area 1. If there is a demand for it, I can change our reservation, but at this point, I am planning on not reserving it so that more of our group can enjoy the shade and trees of the RV area.

Each camping spot is allowed one car, if you have additional cars there is a $5.00/night fee. Each family that attends our Swim Camp also needs to pay a $5 shelter fee that goes towards the rental of a pavilion.

If you have any questions about camping spots, just email me at raiseyourjoys@gmail.com and I will try to help you find the best spot for your family. If you would like to arrive on Sunday, that is fine. I just have to make sure your camping spot is available for that night. You can pay for five nights of camping and I will put you in a spot it will work.

I need to pay for our complete camping fees upfront. Please fill out the Registration Form below and then you will receive a notification with payment instructions. You need to pay for your camping now, but you can pay for your lessons by May 1.

Cancellation fees: If you cancel your camping spot, there is a $10 cancellation fee. If you cancel your swimming lesson spots and I can fill them, there is no cancellation fee. If I cannot fill them (unlikely, but possible, particularly with last minute cancellations), you are responsible for $27 of the $57 lesson fee.

There are many things to do at Swim Camp besides swim. Planned activities include a Potluck Dinner on Tuesday. Wednesday evening is Skit Night. Thursday evening will be a family dance with the amazing Marilyn running the music. Volleyball is pretty much an every day activity. Every evening I will hold storytime at my fire pit. If you would like to head up a different activity, let me know and I’ll see if we can make it work!
