thankful thursdays 4/29
* As I was driving home from our field trip to Hale Centre Theatre, I was filled to the brim with gratitude that I was able to create and share the experience with so many wonderful friends. I was grateful to have a huge community of fellow homeschoolers that are striving to educate their children, hold them close, and let them soar to greatness.
I am especially grateful to my dear Jennifer, who let me borrow her suburban when mine was declared unfit for the trip only 11 hours before take-off time. She was a huge life-saver and will be getting something fun for herself as a sign of my gratitude.

* I received a belated Christmas present! Isn’t it fun to get a present in April when you are aren’t expecting it? Kari gave me a jar of popcorn kernels (you know I am addicted to popcorn, right?) and I have thoroughly enjoyed popping it the last week or so and enjoying huge bowlfuls every afternoon.

* I was privileged to attend a beautiful birth on Sunday night. There are not words to express the joy I feel at a birth. The sweet grandma was able to see her grandchild born (the first time for her – out of thirteen previous grandchild births) and to watch the tears streaming down her face made this whole doula thing completely worth it. To watch the husband encourage his wife through each contraction and then cry as he caressed his baby girl was an experience I will always treasure. To hear him say “Honey, I am so proud of you, you are amazing. I love you.” is why I do this work. Creating stronger family units, stronger marriages where husbands and wives cherish one another is the reason I am a doula.
I am so grateful God called me to this sacred work of attending families during their births – my life is infinitely better because of it.

* Through a mysterious series of events, I have air conditioning in the suburban again. Hallelujah! And a big thanks to the guy who made it happen!

* I am grateful to live in a warm home with warm clothes and a wide variety of food. I have been reading a story of the Donner Party this week and let me just say the horrors of their journey to California are not something I can even imagine enduring. Rawhide soaked for days to make soup? Snow twenty feet deep? Human flesh? Toes falling off because of the cold? Not knowing you can trust your neighbors to help you?

* Thanks to Jennifer and Jesse, the girls and I were able to attend the Dvorak symphony on Saturday night. The guest celloist was magnificent. His passion for his music was such a wonder to watch…to feel. It made me feel like I am not passionate in the slightest!

* Annesley decided last Thursday that she was done with diapers and she has gone potty in the toilet ever since (except on Saturday she insisted on wearing a diaper all day long). She hasn’t had an accident yet and is so proud of herself. I am shocked…I didn’t see this coming at all!

Have a lovely Thursday!
